

The oratorio Émigré is a joint commission by conductor Yu Long, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. It is composed by renowned composer Tan Dun, with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Mark Campbell as the lead writer. This multinational production features a stellar cast of globally acclaimed artists. In November, Émigré will be performed by tenors Matthew White and Arnold Livingston Geis, baritones Yang Shen and Andrew Dwan, sopranos Zhang Meige and Diana Newman, mezzo-soprano Zhu Huiling, and others. The oratorio tells the story of how the Jewish and Chinese peoples supported each other during difficult times, transcending boundaries through music to convey the brilliance of humanity.
