“Global Art” for Performances

The China Shanghai International Arts Festival has fully leveraged its global resource-allocation capabilities.Over more than two decades,renowned companies and artists from around the world,together with outstanding productions,have gathered in Shanghai in a steady stream.On average,more than 50 productions are presented each year,enabling Chinese and Western cultures,classical arts,and avant-garde creations to flourish side by side and engage in vibrant exchange on the Festival's stages,vividly portraying a dynamic panorama in which the world's leading artistic masterpieces converge in Shanghai.

Some notable world-class troupes and artists include  Stuttgart Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, Mariinsky Orchestra,  Wiener Philharmoniker, Staatskapelle Dresden, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and soprano Renee Fleming,soprano Anna   Netrebko,bass-baritone Bryn Terfel,theater artist Robert  Wilson（1941-2025）,composer Tan Dun,and pianist Yuja Wang.Alongside them, CSIAF also welcomed top-tier Chinese artistic organizations including the National Theater of China,China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater,National Ballet of China,Beijing People's Art Theatre,Shaanxi People's Art Theatre,Shanghai Dance Theatre,and Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe.

In recent years,with the continuous accumulation and expansion of international cooperation and influence,the scale of the Festival has grown steadily.The number of performances and exhibitions,the breadth and depth of programming,and the total number of presentations have all increased year by year,while the level of internationalization has continued to rise.

Numerous world premieres,Asian premieres,and China premieres have chosen Shanghai,choosing this cultural hub as a crucial show stage for their creative achievements.

Compelling programming concepts such as "Nation's Only," "Complete Masterpieces,""Homage to Classics,"and"Made in  Shanghai"have taken center stage.Here,the dazzling brilliance of the world stage converges with the vibrant energy of local creativity,creating a powerful testament to the exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign cultures .

In recent years,the Festival has set industry benchmarks through high-quality curation,building a performing arts matrix that combines international vision with strong local roots.The"Shanghai Residency"brings together leading Chinese companies such as the Beijing People's Art Theatre and Shaanxi People's Art Theatre,creating a cultural "home-stage effect"for the city.Kontakthof - Echoes of'78,alongside productions such as Romeo and Juliet by the Stuttgart Ballet and the Chopin Competition Winners'World Tour Concerts,have taken the stage in succession,together forminganationally unique performing arts showcase.Meanwhile,Shanghai-produced works such as True Elegance of Supreme Harmony:The Kunqu Opera Classics from the lmperial Palace (Season One) by Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe and ballet LILY are rooted in tradition while embracing innovation,demonstrating the vibrant creative energy of Shanghai's original creations. Complete masterpieces, including Mahler Symphonies Cycle and Der Ring des Nibelungen,have further elevated the Festival's professional excellence and global influence to new heights.
