The story originates from the Chinese Tang Dynasty legendary novel "Ren Hu Zhuan (Tale of Man and Tiger)" and was later adapted into "Mountain Moon Journal" . The dance theater version of "Mountain Moon" is a synthesis of both adaptations: During the Tang Tianbao period, Li Zheng, a proud and arrogant poet, abandons his official position and pursues a literary career, only to end up achieving little and leaving behind regrets and remorse. He metaphorically becomes a tiger chasing the moon as his inner world gradually becomes disordered, struggling, trapped, conflicting, and ultimately descending into madness, culminating in a state of mental turmoil akin to a trapped beast yearning for something unattainable.
