The Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra was established as a professional symphony orchestra based on the original Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra. In 1996, the Shanghai Film orchestra merged with the Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra to form the Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra. In April 2004, the Orchestra officially changed its name to the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and adopted an international music season management model. Since January 2018, the renowned conductor Zhang Yi has served as the Artistic Director of the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, ushering in a new era for the orchestra. Japanese conductor Maiku Shibata has a deep understanding of opera music, and in this concert, they will perform overtures from several operas by Verdi and Wagner.
