SAMSARA is a work commissioned by eight of the world's top art institutions, including the Shanghai International Dance Center Theater, the Arts Council of England, the Melbourne Arts Center in Australia, the Birmingham Arena Theater in England, the Leicester Curve Theater in England, the Paris Châtelet National Theater in France, the Royal Ballet Theater in England, and the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in the United States. The work draws inspiration from the ideas of Akash Odra and Hu Shenyuan and the vast history and culture of China and India. The two dancers use Journey to the West as inspiration and, through the common language of dance, explore the profound concept of SAMSARA : the cycle of life, birth, existence, and rebirth.
