Tea House by Beijing People's Art Theatre
The Beijing People’s Art Theatre is celebrating the 125th anniversary of LAO She’s birth with a performance of Tea House. Since its debut in 1958, this “crown jewel” of the theatre has become a symbol of the development of Chinese drama. Through the “small society” of Old Yutai Tea House, Tea House portrays the social changes from the late Qing Dynasty to the end of the Anti-Japanese War, capturing Beijing’s local culture while offering an artistic interpretation of China’s modern history. In 1980, Tea House became the first Chinese play to tour abroad, receiving acclaim in Europe. This commemorative performance brings together three generations of core talents from the theatre, including LIANG Guanhua, PU Cunxin, YANG Lixin, HE Bing, WU Gang, GONG Lijun, and FENG Yuanzheng, using the classic script and vivid character portrayals to continue the legacy of the older generation of artists and showcase the enduring vitality of Tea House.
