Rice: Verses for the Hungry Soul

Rice, the plant that feeds three quarters of the world’s population is the star of this exhibition. Rice turns the progress of sprouting, growth, harvest, and the people’s daily interactions with it into an expression of art. Artist, documentary director, and poet Shen Shaomin expresses his reverence for rice through various forms such as documentaries, specimens, documents, and installations, exploring the relationship between the Chinese people, the land, and food. By uncovering the warmth embodied in a single grain of rice, he allows the audience to gain a deeper understanding of and connection to life itself, while also inspiring awe and reflection on the power of nature.
