The original ballet Lily is adapted from the 1958 short story of the same name by RU Zhijuan. With a script by acclaimed writer WANG Anyi and direction by renowned choreographer WANG Ge, the production brings together a top-tier creative team from across China. The ballet centres on the emotional entanglements between people against the backdrop of war, telling the story of three women—a messenger, a new bride, and an elder sister—each with distinct identities, personalities, and life experiences, whose lives intersect through the seemingly trivial act of borrowing a quilt. Through its unique ballet vocabulary, the production allows audiences to experience the beauty of pure and sincere humanity, the warmth and simplicity of human connection, and the vitality and resilience of life.
