Contemporary Acrobatic Theatre Stop for a while by

INVITIONAL WORKSDANCE

The contemporary acrobatic theatre Stop for a while, created by Guangzhou Acrobatic Arts Theatre, is produced by WU Zhengdan, founder of “Ballet on Shoulder,” and co-created by interdisciplinary director JIANG Xiong, in collaboration with a team of emerging young artists. Presented in the style of “New Circus,” this work deconstructs traditional acrobatic techniques such as weightlessness, catching, and aerial throws, weaving them together with elements of contemporary dance and physical theatre. The result is a performance that balances thrilling spectacle with emotional depth, conveying themes of courage in the face of uncertainty and faith in perseverance. The set design embodies the principle of “one object, many meanings”—a metal frame becomes a metaphor for life’s crossroads, while a circular clock transforms into a cosmic galaxy. By reimagining traditional acrobatic concepts through modern artistic forms, Stop for a while invites the audience on a unique and adventurous journey into the evolving language of circus theatre.
