Opening Ceremony Performance True Elegance of Supreme Harmony: The Kunqu Opera Classics from the Imperial Palace (Season One) by Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe
True Elegance of Supreme Harmony: The Kunqu Opera Classics from the Imperial Palace (Season One) is a collaborative production between the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe and the Palace Museum. Centered around the traditional Chinese festivals of Mid-Autumn and Double Ninth, the series features three carefully selected plays: Sending Wine in Jiangzhou, Victory on Mid-Autumn, and Reunion from The Palace of Eternal Life. These works are adapted from opera manuscripts housed in the Palace Museum's collection. With a cast comprising three generations from the five troupes of the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe, the production brings together a top-tier team of experts. Upholding the principle of “discovering, preserving, performing, and sharing the classics”, this collaboration delves into the rich cultural treasures of the Forbidden City. It blends the refined aesthetics of Jiangnan culture with the distinctive flair of Shanghai-style artistry, integrating various intangible cultural heritage elements. The goal is to breathe new life into artifacts and ancient texts, allowing them to truly “come alive” on stage.
