National Opera Knot of Togetherness by Tianjin Conservatory of Music

MUSIC

The Chinese national opera Knot of Togetherness is set against the backdrop of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea. Using the red “knot of togetherness” as a central motif, the opera tells the story of volunteer army hero Huang Jiguang and his comrades, who, alongside the Korean people, forged a bond of friendship through shared bloodshed in the struggle against foreign aggression. The work celebrates revolutionary heroism and the noble spirit of internationalism. Premiered in 1981, the opera was originally created by the Opera Troupe of the former General Political Department of the People’s Liberation Army. This revival is staged by the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, with its president and renowned tenor Wang Hongwei in the leading role. He joins over 200 faculty and students from the Conservatory’s youth symphony orchestra, chorus, dance troupe, and drama ensemble to bring this classic red-themed masterpiece back to life.
