Free in Spirit — Wu Man and the Centennial Changqiao Sizhu Orchestra Concert

WU Man is internationally recognised as a contemporary traditional Chinese instrumentalist. She is not only a master of the pipa’s traditional repertoire but also a trailblazer in expanding its modern expressive possibilities, earning widespread acclaim from audiences around the world. In the concert Free in Spirit, WU Man will perform a selection of traditional and original pipa works that reflect her distinctive artistic voice. In addition, for the first time, she will collaborate with the Jiangnan Silk and Bamboo Ensemble from Changqiao, Xuhui District, Shanghai. She will also join forces with Fan Linfeng, bamboo flute instructor at the Central Conservatory of Music and a rising young dizi and xiao (Chinese bamboo flutes) player, to perform five of the “Eight Great Pieces” of Jiangnan silk-and-bamboo music, showcasing the rich musical heritage that has been passed down for centuries in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang region.
