Wrapped in an absurd and hyperbolic narrative, the music film revisits an ancient Chinese folk tale: Guan Yu Beheads Diao Chan.
In this film adaptation, Guan Yu, the proverbial hero of the Three Kingdoms period, travels to a modern urban setting and finds himself gradually stripped of his power and judgment, while a contemporary actress preparing to portray Diao Chan—a legendary beauty from the same era—carefully completes her transformation for the stage, unaware of the tragic fate awaiting her.
The two storylines intertwine and ultimately converge as Guan Yu severs Diao Chan on stage, a symbolic scene that echoes the traditional tale in which Guan Yu kills Diao Chan in the name of loyalty and righteousness. Through the juxtaposition of historical archetypes and contemporary realities, this innovative work invites reflection on how cultural traditions are interpreted, inherited, and reimagined in the present day.
