Music Theatre: Overlord is inspired by two traditional Chinese masterpieces for the pipa—Ambush on All Sides and The King Doffs His Armor. Based on historical accounts of Xiang Yu, the Overlord of Western Chu, the work portrays this classical Chinese hero through music, exploring his inner world across different chapters. Unlike film and traditional Chinese opera adaptations, Overlord does not focus on retelling the story, but instead seeks to reveal the Overlord's innocence amid the ups and downs of his life, as well as the universal human emotions that transcend cultural backgrounds and time.
