Three hundred years ago, Chen Duansheng, the author of The Destiny of Rebirth (Zai Sheng Yuan), created the heroine Meng Lijun, a woman ahead of her time who could not break through the shackles of tradition. She eventually laid down her pen, leaving the story unfinished.
The adaptation gave new dimensions to the heroine. After experiencing life's ups and downs, Meng Lijun became a woman who pursued equality and freedom. At the same time, she remained keenly aware that society continued to regard marriage as the only path to happiness for women. Although she was every bit as talented as men, she struggled to find the conditions needed to realize her aspirations.
The production hoped that Meng Lijun's "reborn" free spirit would inspire self-reflection and emotional resonance among contemporary women.
