One of Europe’s leading opera houses - Teatro La Fenice - is bringing a new production of Tosca to Shanghai. Directed by Juan Anton Rechi, it boldly moves the story from Rome in 1800 to a modern 1950s setting, focusing on the deep connection between freedom and human nature and on humanity’s eternal pursuit of liberty. The staging replaces the traditionally enclosed and inhibited setting with an open space that reinforces this central theme. This production has entered the permanent repertoire of Teatro La Fenice.
