SOIRÉE D’ÉTUDES draws on choreographer Cassiel Gaube’s long-term research into House Dance. Through a series of interconnected dance passages, it explores the intersections between street-dance vocabulary and contemporary choreography. Three dancers constantly shift formations, deconstructing and reshaping House Dance’s signature footwork, rhythms and grooves through a vibrant physical dialogue. Borrowing the musical concept of the “étude,” the work expands the boundaries of bodily expression through sustained experimentation and invention. It also probes the intrinsic relationship between physical movement and musical structure, paying tribute to the unique creativity and vitality of House culture while revealing the artistic energy generated when street dance and contemporary dance inspire one another.
