Shanghai International Puppet Festival

The 10th “Golden Magnolia” Shanghai International Puppet Festival is a Category A competition in the international puppetry scene. Its main venue is the Xianlesi Puppet Performance and Exhibition Center, and it collaborates at the same time with multiple venues across Shanghai while radiating out to the Yangtze River Delta region. Continuing the “two competitions plus one showcase” format, the festival brings together 12 top-tier puppet productions from 10 countries and regions. This edition introduces “Project Firefly”, which is a brand-new section for nurturing young talents, as well as unveiling the festival’s official mascot “Mumu the Gull” for the first time, supported by a diverse range of activities including a puppet parade, a creative market, and DIY workshops. As an important part of the CSIAF Professional Sessions, the festival brings together various performance forms such as shadow puppetry, tabletop puppets, and marionettes, building a platform for exchange among professionals and enthusiasts at home and abroad. Giving equal weight to professional competition and to aesthetic education for all, it presents a comprehensive view of innovative achievements in puppetry from around the world.
