The Triptych Version of Relative Calm, adapted from its original 1981version, presents a collaboration of brilliance. Lucinda Childs captivated the audience in the original production through her almost obsessively intricate rhythms and motifs. Her ballet presents a paradoxically daring and yet free-form spectacle. Meanwhile, Robert Wilson's artistic vision infuses the stage with a cosmic dimension that suspends time and floods it with bursts of light.
After more than 40 years, these two icons of the American performing arts scene converge to reinvent while preserving the essence of the original. Retaining the title "Relative Calm", this rendition encompasses reinterpretations of Lucinda Childs' two choreographies, set to the compositions of John Adams and John Gibson. This version expands into a triptych format, further enriched by a novel creation set to Igor Stravinsky's Pulcinella composition.
