Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe

Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe – established in 1978 as a nationally protected professional ensemble, with founding director Yu Zhenfei, a master of Peking and Kunqu opera, and currently led by renowned Kunqu artist Gu Haohao. To date, the troupe has revived and staged nearly 300 classic excerpt pieces and some 60 full-length productions.


It has received the National Stage Art Excellence Award from the Ministry of Culture three times, along with multiple "Five-One Project" Awards, Wenhua Grand Prizes, Wenhua New Play Awards, China Theatre Awards, and top honors at the China Kunqu Festival. Eleven of its artists have won the Plum Blossom Award (with one artist receiving it twice). In 1986, it earned the Ministry of Culture's First Prize for Kunqu revitalization, acclaimed as "first-rate troupe, first-rate performers, first-rate repertoire, first-rate production."
