La Bayadère by Mariinsky Ballet
La Bayadère is one of the most popular works in classical ballet. Through graceful pas de deux, pantomime-like dialogue, majestic ensemble scenes, and captivating solos, the ballet tells a story of love, loyalty, and betrayal. Choreographed by Marius Petipa, La Bayadère is based on the love story between an Indian noble warrior and a temple dancer, which premiered in 1877. The ballet is rich in exoticism, with a finely crafted and detailed structure. The tension of the plot blends seamlessly with the cool elegance of classical ballet in the “Kingdom of the Shades” scene.
