THE RITE OF SPRING by Pina Bausch Foundation, École des Sables & Sadler's Wells
The Rite of Spring consists of three works. The first, PHILIPS 936 885 DSY, is a solo piece choreographed by Pina Bausch in 1971 to the music of French electronic composer Pierre Henry. It has been restaged by dancer Eva Pacyga. The second work, Hommage to the Ancestors, was created in 2023 by Germaine Acogny, the “mother of contemporary African dance”. This solo, choreographed and performed by Acogny herself, serves as a tribute to her ancestors. The third piece, The Rite of Spring, is one of Pina Bausch’s most groundbreaking dances, first performed in 1975, and in this production, it is performed by a special ensemble of 32 dancers from African countries.
