Han Opera Citadel for the Wife by Wuhan Han Opera Theatre

Han Opera Citadel for the Wife is the first collaboration between the Wuhan Han Opera Troupe and playwright LUO Zhou, directed by ZHANG Manjun. The character of SUN Shangxiang is played by WANG Li, a fifth-generation successor of Han opera master CHEN Bohua and deputy head of the Wuhan Han Opera Troupe. The play adopts the traditional four-act plus a prologue structure and advances the story through the life of SUN Shangxiang, a female character from the Three Kingdoms period. It combines the charm of folk legends with the reflective nature of historical drama, weaving a network of heroes from the Three Kingdoms era. Through the well-known stories of the Three Kingdoms, the opera showcases the unique charm of Chinese traditional culture and distinctly presents the cultural characteristics of Jingchu (Hubei and Hunan regions).
