Dance Drama Wang Yangming by the Guizhou Song and Dance Theatre

The dance drama Wang Yangming is created and performed by the Guizhou Song and Dance Theatre. The work centres on the philosopher WANG Yangming’s years of exile in Longchang, Guizhou during the Ming Dynasty, portraying his mental journey from confusion to enlightenment. Through scenes such as WANG’s lectures at Longgang Academy and admonishing local chieftains, the dance drama depicts the intellectual development of his philosophy of “unity of knowledge and action” amid adversity. The production integrates Guizhou’s regional culture and natural imagery, illustrating WANG Yangming’s spiritual growth as he sought to “establish the mind for Heaven and Earth, and secure the livelihood for the people,” conveying a timeless philosophical power. The script is co-authored by YU Yanjie (National First-Class Playwright) and YANG Yijun (Researcher at Guizhou Provincial Culture and Art Research Institute). The creative team features top-tier talents: Choreographer WANG Yabin, Composer LÜ Liang, Stage Designer WU Lei, and Multimedia Designer HU Tianji.
