Xiju (Wuxi Opera) Heroic Sons and Daughters by Jiangsu Performing Arts Group Xiju Troupe

The Wuxi Opera production Heroic Sons and Daughters, adapted from Ba Jin’s novel Tuanyuan (Reunion) and the 1964 film Heroic Sons and Daughters, portrays the epic fight of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army during the Korean War. Through the eyes of WANG Fang, the story delves into the inner world of her brother WANG Cheng, revealing how a hero is forged. It expands on the “Fire on me!” spirit of the times and composes a heroic anthem for the new era. Starring renowned Wuxi Opera artists ZHOU Dongliang and JI Chunyuan, the opera merges traditional Wuxi Opera singing with modern stage technology to vividly depict the scenes of the Korean War and emotional subtlety of the characters, stirring patriotic sentiment among today’s audiences.
