Qin Opera Modern Drama Tenacious Woman by Ningxia Performing Arts Group Qin Opera Theatre

The modern Qin Opera Tenacious Woman is inspired by LI Yaomei, a model figure in China’s poverty alleviation campaign, and highlights the resilience and strength of contemporary women. The heroine, LI Shuihe, was born on the Loess Plateau of northern China and endures a series of hardships—from a failed marriage to serious illness, a car accident, and overwhelming debt. Yet, through her broom-making skills, she leads her fellow villagers out of poverty. Set against the backdrop of national poverty alleviation and rural revitalisation, the opera conveys uplifting values through the lens of traditional theater. It tells a moving story of how poverty alleviation policies can transform individual lives, and how one woman’s success inspires and uplifts an entire community. While offering artistic enjoyment, the piece also invites reflection on human resilience, regional spirit, and the momentum of the times.
