Shaanxi People’s Art Theatre on Stage in Shanghai

Following last year’s Beijing People’s Art Theatre Residency in Shanghai, this year’s China Shanghai International Arts Festival once again presents a regional theatre residency with the Shaanxi People’s Art Theatre. From October to November, Shaanxi People’s Art Theatre will make its debut in Shanghai with five major productions, including the “Mao Dun Literature Prize Series” works — Drama Protagonist, The Book of Life, The Ordinary World, White Deer Plain — as well as the “Chen Yan Trilogy” work Drama Starry Sky and Half a Tree, bringing the weighty narratives of the Loess Plateau to resonate along the Huangpu River. A theatre embodies the culture of its region. Through this residency, the cultural charm of Shaanxi will be fully showcased at the Shangyin Opera House. From the Xintianyou folk songs in Drama The Ordinary World, to the Qinqiang traditional arias in Drama White Deer Plain, to the southern Shaanxi folk songs in Drama Starry Sky and Half a Tree, and even local culinary specialties such as roujiamo and liangpi… regional artistic treasures intertwine with the everyday flavors of life, offering Shanghai audiences a richer cultural and tourism experience.
